FOR FOREVER MAVERICKS AND RETIRED UNO FACULTY AND STAFF AGE 65+

The UNO Golden Circle is comprised of alumni, retired faculty and staff age 65+. The group was formed at a reunion in 1984 honoring the class of 1934.

Today, members meet monthly, ten months of the year, for Golden Circle Lunch Bunches at the Thompson Alumni Center.

Erin Bass, Ph.D., Executive Director, Center for Competencies, Skills and Workforce Development, Innovative and Learning-Centric Initiatives

Erin Bass is a Professor of Management and the James R. Schumacher Chair of Ethics in the College of Business Administration, as well as the inaugural Executive Director for Competencies, Skills and Workforce Development in the Office of Innovative and Learning-Centric Initiatives. Join us to hear how Erin is supporting student and faculty growth while shaping the future of UNO’s programs.

Victoria Kohout, Chief of External Relations

As Chief of Government and Community Relations, Victoria oversees UNO’s relationships with federal, state and local government entities while strengthening the university’s reputation among key community leaders. In addition to advocating for policies that support UNO’s mission, she creates opportunities for faculty, staff and students to engage in relationship-building events that increase support for UNO. Join us to learn how Victoria is strengthening UNO’s presence and connections across the community.

APRIL 3

Gaylene Armstrong, Ph.D., Dean, Isaacson Professor, College of Public Affairs and Community Service

A leader in her field, Dr. Armstrong has directed the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice since 2016, guiding it to new levels of excellence. She also serves as co-director of the Nebraska Collaborative for Violence Intervention and Prevention and, since 2023, as UNO’s Faculty Athletic Representative to the NCAA. On July 1, 2025, she began her appointment as Dean of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service. Join us to learn more about Dr. Armstrong and hear updates from the college.

Bill Pickett, Director, Spirit, Tradition, and Signature Events

Pickett oversees major campus events such as Durango Days, Homecoming, De-Stress Fest and student spirit trips. He partners with Omaha Athletics to create engagement opportunities for students while increasing awareness of the Maverick Maniacs and boosting attendance at athletic events. Join us to learn how Bill is strengthening school spirit and fostering tradition on campus.

Paul W. Denton, Ph.D., Biology, Associate Professor

Dr. Denton joined UNO in 2019, bringing research expertise focused on immunotherapy. He will discuss his work, the hands-on research opportunities he provides to students in his lab, and the healthcare talent pipeline UNO is building.

Cancellations: To receive a refund, attendees must cancel before Monday the week of the event. Cancellations on or after Monday can transfer their registration to the next Golden Circle Lunch Bunch.

NOTE: There will not be a January 2026 Golden Circle Lunch Bunch. Golden Circle Lunch Bunches will resume in February.

Golden Circle Field Trips are opportunities to visit and tour different areas of campus to learn more about university advancements. Golden Circle Field Trips are open to UNO alumni, retired UNO faculty and staff and guests.
