2015 UNO Alumni Scholars
The 2015 UNO Alumni Association Scholarships have been awarded to four high school graduates. The four $2,500/year scholarships are awarded to those who have demonstrated leadership and involvement during high school. The scholarships are renewable for up to four years total.
Jennifer Briggs, Bloomington, Ill.
Briggs is from Bloomington, Ill., and graduated from Normal Community High School. She will pursue a degree in architectural engineering. In high school, Briggs was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also was a 4-H Leadership Achievement Award recipient. At her church she was a member of the children’s and high school committees, taught Sunday school and was a counselor for a summer camp. She also volunteered at a retirement village and helped raise funds for a children's home.
Adrienne Cavill, Kearney, Neb.
Cavill graduated from Kearney High School and will be majoring in business at UNO. During high school, she received many awards, including: KHS Honor Roll, Golden K Student of the Month, Rotary Youth Leadership Award and FBLA awards including FBLA Hospitality Management (1st in Nebraska, 7th nationally). Cavill has volunteered with a community animal shelter, soup kitchen and homeless shelter and has helped fundraisers such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, March for Dimes, Charity Water and Special Olympics.
Stephanie Freund, Atlantic, Iowa
Freund graduated from Atlantic High School in Atlantic, Iowa, and will attend UNO as a business major. In high school, Freund was actively involved in Student Council, Journalism, Friend 2 Friend Mentoring, National Honor Society and soccer. In Atlantic Freund was involved with the Cass County Washington G.E.M. 4-H Club and the Cass County Youth Council. At her church she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, helped with Bible School and was a Eucharistic Minister.
Breanna White, Treynor, Iowa
White graduated from Treynor (Iowa) High School in May 2015. There she participated in groups/activities including the Junior Optimist Octagonal International Club, Yearbook, Iowa Girls’ State, Dance Team, Quiz Bowl, High School Chorus and more. She also was Class President. All four years in high school, White received First in Class, Honor Roll and Academic Letters. She also received the Athletic Achievement-Academic recognition “On-A-Roll” for the last three years.
