Chancellor Announces Retirement
UNO Chancellor John Christensen announced Sept. 26 that he will be stepping down from his office. Christensen, the first UNO alum to serve as chancellor, will remain on until his successor has been named by University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds and the new appointee is ready to lead the campus. Christensen called it a difficult decision, but said it is important to do what is right for both his family and the university. “There's never a perfect time to leave your dream job, but there is a right time,” Christensen said. Briscoe statue unveiled at Baxter
Marlin Briscoe is perhaps UNO Athletics' most iconic student-athlete, and his image became an icon Sept. 23 with the unveiling of a bronze statue at Baxter Arena. The sculpture, by local artist Joe Putjenter, was uncovered by Briscoe and UNO basketball player Tra-Deon Hollins at an event that drew more than 200 members of the community as well as family, friends and former Briscoe teammates. Hollins served as the model for the sculpture. See more
