Home | UNO Alumni & Friends London Trip
Join UNO alumni to celebrate a legacy of global learning, connection and shared experience in London.
Since 1977, UNO students have traveled to London to explore the UK legal system and gain a broader understanding of justice beyond the classroom. What began as an innovative idea has become one of UNO’s most enduring academic experiences, shaping generations of students and alumni.
This special alumni trip honors that legacy while inviting the broader Maverick community to experience London together.
Spend eight days in London exploring the city’s history, culture and global influence.
Highlights include guided visits to iconic landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace, along with a full-day excursion to Oxford and Shakespeare country. Special experiences include a private group dinner with local legal professionals, a visit to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and a farewell Thames River cruise.
The itinerary balances structured experiences with free time to explore at your own pace.
Since 1977, the UNO Comparative Criminal Justice program in England has given students a firsthand look at the UK criminal justice system — bringing learning to life through global experience. Founded by Professor Emeritus Dr. William “Bill” Wakefield, the program has engaged more than 3,000 students and community members over nearly five decades.
As we mark this milestone anniversary, we honor Wakefield, whose vision, leadership and dedication established and sustained this transformative program for generations of students. We also proudly recognize Ellen Freeman-Wakefield, whose deep connection to both UNO and the United Kingdom has enriched the experience and strengthened its lasting impact.
Together, Bill and Ellen will serve as our UNO SCCJ Honorary London Ambassadors, exemplifying the spirit and global perspective at the heart of this program.

"The SCCJ London Study Abroad Trip was one of the highlights of my college experience. While learning about criminal justice in a different country was fascinating, I especially enjoyed how the faculty made the experience engaging through class sessions, guest speakers, and field trips. I also loved getting to explore London and experience the city firsthand, which made the entire trip even more meaningful."
