Free Farms volunteer opportunity — Friday, March 20
Looking for a project to join during UNO Alumni Month of Service? Consider helping Omaha's Free Farm Syndicate Friday, March 20, from noon to 2 p.m. as it begins its gardening season.
Founded in 2017 by UNO alumni Clare Maakestad and Alex O'Hanlon and other community members, Free Farm is a coalition of open-harvest community gardens. The group hosts Free Farm Stands on Saturdays, encouraging anyone to pick up free produce, bring excess produce to share, and learn about its gardens.
On Friday, March 20, alumni can volunteer to help Free Farms prepare its South Omaha Dorcas site at 1938 S 15th St. Join fellow grads and community members planting Swiss Giant snowpeas and onions; preparing garden beds for seed saving; and, placing tarps on a hill side for a perennial garden.
Please note: The Free Farm volunteer meeting scheduled for Saturday, March 21, has been canceled. Please check the Free Farm website for updates.
Questions, contact Clare Maakestad at cmaakestad@unomaha.edu.
