Once again, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Alumni Association programs, events and communications efforts have proven award-worthy.
The association received five awards in the 2021 CASE District VI Institutional Awards Program recognizing the best work of advancement professionals. CASE — the Council for Advancement and Support of Education — encompasses eight districts. CASE VI is comprised of nearly 200 institutions from eight Midwest states.
The association has received more than 40 CASE awards in the peer-judged awards program since 2010.
“I’m so proud of our alumni team for producing work that our colleagues around the country consider to be worthy of recognition,” said Alumni Association President Lee Denker. “UNO and the alumni network deserve nothing but the best, and they bring that every day!”
Following are the 2021 CASE VI awards won:

The UNO Maverick Pen Pal Program was created and managed by Elizabeth Draney, director II of UNO alumni programs. It connected alumni 65 and older with Class of 2020 alumni in one-to-one correspondence, encouraging intentional, personal conversations, intergenerational insights, networking, and the start new friendships. The program was launched in July, replacing existing programming for both age groups that had been cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus. There were 76 participants, including 40 recent graduates.
As a Best Practices in Alumni Relations finalist, the Pen Pal program goes on to compete against finalists from other districts for the Platinum Award.
The summer 2019 issue of UNO Magazine was dedicated solely to art and featured stories on campus art, student, faculty and alumni artists, tattoos, design and more. For the cover, 24 artists were commissioned to give their interpretation of the axiom that art often “Is in the Eye of the Beholder.” The 24 pieces were combined into a single cover that extends from the front to the back of the magazine. Anthony Flott is managing editor of the magazine; Heidi Mihelich of design firm cre8ivenergy oversees design and cover execution.
