In Memoriam: Richard Holland
Friends said education was his greatest passion. Dick Holland spent his life supporting students. An alum and outspoken supporter of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Holland passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9. He was 95 years old. One of the largest signs of his investment into UNO students' success sits on the corner of 67th & Center St — Holland's support proved key in allowing UNO to build Baxter Arena. The name of Holland Community Ice honors that generosity. Three years ago, UNO students, faculty and administrators celebrated Holland's support, leading a parade outside his home. "What can you give Dick Holland but a parade?” one organizer said. Along with his late wife, Mary, Holland dedicated time and resources to organizations across the city, supporting the arts, education and youth mentoring programs. Read more
Success brewing at UNO’s new student-run Stedman's Cafe
The smell of bagels and coffee. … The smiles from other students. … The smashing success so soon. There are many perks, UNO students say, to working in Stedman’s Café, the newest coffeehouse on campus that opened in Mammel Hall, home to the College of Business Administration, in January. “The café’s success over the last semester is undeniable,” student manager Nicole Partusch said. “When we first opened, we started by only selling bottled beverages. Now we have a wide array of products provided by campus and local vendors at low prices. The student and faculty support has been amazing, and it just continues to grow.”
Named in honor of alum and longtime UNO support Robert Stedman, the cafe is supported by UNO's Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Franchising. To learn more, click here.
