Swinging for scholarships The UNO Alumni Association on Sept. 12 will host one of Omaha's best-run and most successful golf fund raisers — the UNO Chancellor's Scholarship Swing. The Association, which has raised nearly $600,000 since it began hosting the tournament 15 years ago, is seeking sponsors and foursomes to participate. See more.

High School studens in new UNO program help fight Missouri River flooding About 100 Omaha high school students were busy filling sand bags to help protect an Omaha sewage treatment facility from rising Missouri River waters. The students are part of UNO's new SummerWorks program, which is funded by private donors and supervised by UNO's Service-Learning Academy. See a photo slide show of their work. UNO ATHLETICS Red Sox pick Holtmeyer in MLB draft The Boson Red Sox selected UNO junior right-hander Joe Holtmeyer in the 22nd round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft June 7, making him the highest pick of any player during UNO Baseball Coach Bob Herold's tenre.
Holtemeyer finished the season as UNO's career strikeout leader and was the NCAA Division II strikeout leader as a sophomore. Read more.
